Brooklyn Bridge (USA) – description, history, location. Exact address, phone number, website. Reviews of tourists, photos and videos.
The Brooklyn Bridge is not just a connecting highway between Brooklyn and Manhattan, it is one of the main attractions of New York, one might say, the visiting card of the city. This is a record-breaking bridge, a building with its own, sometimes tragic, but nonetheless exciting history. See itypetravel for geostatistics of Indiana.
The idea to build a bridge of an unusual design (suspension) using again unusual building materials (steel coated with a special alloy instead of heavy cast iron) came to John Roebling.
He himself developed the project and was directly involved in the construction, during which he was seriously injured and died from blood poisoning. Then the architect was replaced by his son, but due to fatal coincidences, soon he laid his life on this building. And finally, the work of her own husband and son found the courage to continue Emily Roebling. Today, there is a plaque on the Brooklyn Bridge that commemorates the names of its creators.
In general, the construction of the bridge lasted about thirteen years, and at the time of its opening it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, its length is almost two kilometers. Moreover, the bridge support towers were considered the highest in the two American continents.
It is also worth noting that its construction, apparently, was patronized by Mrs. Luck herself, since all suspension bridges built earlier than the middle of the last century were built without taking into account aerodynamic influence, and did not last long. Brooklyn is the only bridge of its time that does not require reconstruction, thanks to the unique design of the ligaments, which Roebling unknowingly designed. Additional support cables were erected simply for reinsurance, and serve more of an aesthetic role, making the Brooklyn Bridge even more original.
The fact that the Brooklyn Bridge was built, as they say, for centuries, is also evidenced by the curious fact that during the “cold” confrontation between the States and the Soviet Union, a real bomb shelter was built here, equipped with everything necessary. The entrance to it was discovered only a few years ago during renovations.
Unique in its design, this Gothic-style bridge is also considered a real architectural masterpiece, to emphasize this fact, a special illumination was installed, which favorably emphasizes the main aesthetic features of the building. Today, the Brooklyn Bridge is on the list of major US National Landmarks, is the most popular tourist attraction and one of the main characters in dozens of movies.

Bull of Wall Street
Wall Street Bull (New York, USA) — description, history, location, reviews, photos and videos.
On the night before Christmas 1989, New York received an unexpected gift. Directly in front of the Stock Exchange building on Wall Street, near the festive spruce, a huge bronze statue of an angry attacking bull appeared from nowhere. His horns are exposed forward, his muscles tense, his nostrils flared with rage. The beast crouched on its front legs, its tail, resembling a whip, is curved above the high raised sacrum. The whole sculpture is filled with irresistible power and expression. The bull is huge: its length is 4.9 m, width 3.4 m, weight – 3.2 tons. It is welded from many parts with a thickness of only 2 cm, and is hollow inside.
In New York Stock Exchange jargon, “bulls” are stockbrokers.
Author’s intent
American sculptor Arturo Di Modica sculpted the statue at his own expense. According to him, it symbolizes the resilience and faith in the future of the American people after the fateful “Black Monday” in 1987, which began the global financial crisis. On this day, the Dow Jones index set an anti-record, falling by 22.6%. The sculptor spent 300,000 USD on his project.
Di Modica did not receive permission from the municipality for his street art, he installed the statue arbitrarily in the middle of the night, dragging it on a trailer and unloading it on the ground between two police patrol lanes. The very next day, the administration of the exchange hired a powerful crane and took the present to the warehouse. But even in such a short time, the statue fell in love with both New Yorkers and tourists. She was returned to the street, but was placed not in front of the stock exchange, but two blocks from it in a small square, Bowling Green, not far from Battery Park, where the famous Broadway begins.
To this day, permission to install the statue is considered temporary. But it is clear that now, when it has caught up in popularity with the Statue of Liberty, no one will remove it anywhere.
Urban legends and omens associated with the attacking bull have already formed. It is believed that rubbing his horns and nose brings good luck. But it is the bull testicles that shine most brightly, which are said to attract success in the stock market game. In the mornings, a whole line of Wall Street clerks line up, hurrying to work, but considering it their duty to touch the source of power.
Fearless girl
The tradition of installing sculptures on the street without permission was continued by the artist Kristen Vizbal. In March 2017, a statue of a little girl with flowing hair appeared in front of the bull’s face, smiling into the eyes of an angry beast. At her feet is a bronze plaque with the inscription: “Women leaders are strength!”. The author wanted to draw public attention to the dominance of men in leadership positions on Wall Street.
Now Di Modica was indignant. He went to court, stating that the girl distorts his original intention. The decision was a compromise, the statue of the child will remain in its place for a year, and then they will think what to do with it.
