Office Web Apps are Working (for Free)

The Microsoft will try once again fight with Google, this time in the web-based office applications segment. As you already know, the company was developing the Office Web Apps to compete with Google Docs, providing creation of basic documents and free. Well, that day has come: Office Web Apps start to become available today for some users.

The initial forecast was that the versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint web based would only be released in the second half of June, there for the day 15. But users of SkyDrive, the MS document storage service, realized that Office web App was appearing and trumpeted from the websites focused on technology.

According to Mary Jo Foley, ZDNet, the Office Web Apps would be released only to Internet users in the United States, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. How am nosy, I test myself and apparently found that in Brazil the service works perfectly.

As you can see in the picture above, this post was completely produced from the Word web interface. For now, the service display language is English. I even tried to set the spell checker to Portuguese, but it did not work.
